Poulsen (health economics, U. of Southern Denmark), after discussing the international theoretical and historical development of the form of policy research that examine the shortand longterm social consequences of the application of certain technologies, explains models of innovation and diffusion of technology in economics and sociology. He then treats a case study of the diffusion of laparoscopic technologies in Denmark and presents an economic analysis of diffusion. Finally, he presents policy recommendations for Denmark based on his empirical findings.
